I threw a song together using clips of Trump’s voice. If you like dubstep and dislike Trump, you’ll probably like this track… I will try to keep politics off this blog but this was too good to pass up. And to be clear, I’m just as anti-Hillary as anti-Trump.
The music of the song Havoc B by Enter Shikari would be great for the opening credits/scenes of a violent spy or gangster movie, an action thriller type. I’ve always thought since I first Continue Reading
These are the lyrics to a song I’ve been working on for a couple years now. The first verse came to me one day in the shower, to the tune of Tom Petty’s Last Dance. Obviously I was single at the time. The second verse came to me one day while I was away from the wife for five weeks. Anyway, just think of the harmonica part at the break. It just needs a verse in between these two to connect them, and/or something to end it. Other than that though, I think it’s perfect so far.
Today’s music rant- stupid lyrics. Mainly two songs I’ve heard recently- Harder Better Faster Stronger (the Kanye West rapes music version) and Lose Yourself by Eminem. I know they’re old songs, and I try to ignore them but they played at work and so here’s my take: Continue Reading
Bold title, I know. Don’t get me wrong, I love music. But I don’t believe that anyone who truly loves music could possibly claim that they’re happy with the industry today, or even for the last 70 years or so. And it all comes down to one single, seemingly-innocent-yet-all-too-emphasized issue: The music industry is just that- industry. They’re about the money, not the music. That’s the problem. In order to sell albums, they must de-complicate everything creative and pander to the lowest common denominator. That’s where boy bands come from; that’s where idiots like Lady Gaga, Nicki Minaj, Justin Bieber and Kanye West come from… Continue Reading
It doesn’t matter where you are, you’ve probably seen most of these issues in your own scene if you’re an active part of it. “This band’s selling out. They think they’re hot shit since they went on one tour. They act like they’re the best, blah blah blah.” That’s just one of many issues I see between bands today. Hey, you left a cd in my car from that band that traveled through. “Shoot that piece of shit.” Really? They gave us free cds just because we were the only ones who showed up, and they’re actually really good. “Shoot that piece of shit.” Well that’s the problem. You’ve shown a complete lack of respect for them, and so now I have no respect for you (as a band), and that is the issue we’re facing. Bands don’t want to respect each other’s craft. No, you don’t do things the way I do, and I wouldn’t classify you as the same genre or sub-genre as me, but the real question is, is it working for you? Continue Reading
Just a short post, since I haven’t been very active in a while; There are two books that I would say are absolutely essential for any band looking to get ahead in the business, as well as two more that I personally think are great resources;
1. The Artist’s Guide To Success In The Music Business by Loren Weisman (www.artistsguide.net/)
2. Music Law by Rich Stim (published by NOLO) Continue Reading
